Capacity building for low-cost sanitation

During two weeks in August-September Thorbjørn from UBU Tanzania group visited CBHCC to discuss the Joint Finalisation application and do some capacity building for low-cost sanitation for rural and peri-urban areas, building a demonstration site at CBHCC in Arusha.

The innovative low-cost building techniques for pit lining for long life span, a range of new models of hygienic concrete latrine slabs and a special VIP superstructure raised quite some interest among the CBHCC staff and local visitors and many questions were asked. Of special interest from CBHCC were the prospective of using this type of low-cost technologies for school sanitation, which is a big challenge in Tanzania with inadequate facilities at most schools and insufficient funding to rectify the problem.
